Snake Pass to Bleaklow & The B-29 Wreck
This challenging but spectacular walk departs from Snake Pass and immediately immerses you in the vast, otherworldly landscape of peat hags and gritstone tors. Following the Pennine Way, you'll first navigate to the remote summit of Bleaklow Head.
Then across to the iconic plateau to one of the Peak District's most poignant sites: the wreckage of the US Air Force B-29 "Overexposed". This memorial, scattered across the slopes of Higher Shelf Stones, commemorates the crew who lost their lives in a 1948 crash. The rusted remains, set against the harsh, beautiful moorland, offer a powerful and humbling reminder of history.
